“It was a selfish proposal to begin with, motivated more by personal rather than national interest,” Vice President Jejomar Binay said commenting on call for PNoy’s second term from users of a social networking site.
“It was also unfair to the President. The proposal put him on the spot and made him the object of criticisms, which he doesn’t deserve,” VP Binay added.
“Those who made the proposal don’t know the President. He (President Aquino) is a decent person and will not cling to power. He is a student of history, and he won’t tarnish his mother’s good name just to please some personalities,” Binay noted.
Binay added that PNoy’s mother, Cory Aquino “opposed similar moves by succeeding administrations. I am certain President Noynoy will follow the sterling example of his mother.”
The 1987 Constitution is clear that the Republic’s president can only serve for one full six-year term.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas agrees for PNoy’s second term. No one else is better qualified to continue what President Aquino started than PNoy himself, Roxas said.
It is known to public that both Roxas and Binay are eying for the presidency after Aquino’s term.
