Palawan court convicts twelve Chinese poachers caught with anteaters

The Palawan Regional Trial Court convicts 12 Chinese poachers who were arrested last April last year for violating Republic Act 10067 or the Tubbataha Protected Area Law of 2009. Approximately four hundred boxes of anteaters were seized from their vessel.

Eleven Chinese poachers will be imprisoned for six to ten years, while the vessel’s captain was sentenced to 12 years in jail. Also, each convicted will be fined $100,000.

Convicted Chinese poachers are currently out after posting bail. They will be imprisoned at Iwahig Penal colony in Palawan.

These Chinese poachers also face bribery, illegal entry and possession of protected marine species.
