“The Constitution clearly states that each elected President can only have one six-year term. Whatever they say, the Constitution will prevail,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. told state-owned radio station dzRB clearing that President Aquino has no plan on extending his term amid calls from social media users for another term for PNoy.
“Yes the President has made it clear that he has no plans of extending his term. It is perhaps a manifestation of the people’s continuing support for the President,” Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told Manila Bulletin.
“We can’t go against the Constitution by keeping PNoy as President but we can and must be watchful for making sure that we vote for a good, honest, intelligent, God-fearing, and a person who’ll lead with good example with his own personal life and with all good intentions for the benefit of the Filipinos and the Philippines,” Valte added.
Cabinet Secretary Ruben Almendras said PNoy is “clearing the field, so that the next administration will have a clear field to plant on.” He also added that voters specially the youth must be wise in choosing for the next government official to vote.
