Anti-government protests during SONA led by militant groups

Approximately 5000 protesters from different militant groups are expected to converge near the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City to perform anti-government rally in time for the fifth State of the Nation Address of President Aquino.

The militant groups are calling to impeach Aquino using implementation of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and signing of Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) as grounds for the President’s impeachment.

The government and private sectors sees DAP (amid SC’s ruling) to have boost the country’s economy. While the AFP leadership is calling for the immediate implementation of EDCA to strengthen the country’s territorial defense, humanitarian assistance and disaster response capabilities.

The Philippine National Police deployed 10,000 men to ensure peace and order during the SONA of PNoy.

Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes says they will try to go near the Batasang Pambansa. “We’d also like to call attention to the overkill preparations involving concrete barriers, steel fences and razor sharp concertina wires which are a danger to the public.”

Other militant groups are set to do protests in different parts of the country like Iloilo city and Davao city.
