A pastor prayed for the new Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang. Pastor Peter Tan-Chi said the reason behind the new AFP chief’s last name is C stands for Christ-centered. “I remember your name like Matapang. Pero Christ-Centered. Kaya C [instead of M] Catapang,” Tan-Chi said.
Social networking site users were proud that the new chief is Christ-centered. One user says, “A servant of God and of the Filipinos. May God bless him as he leads the whole of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.”
Catapang as the new military chief will focus on ending insurgencies so that the AFP can focus on territorial defense.
“We are transitioning to territorial defense because the world has become so globalized that the threats are likewise global. We have to level up, put a closure to the problem of internal (insurgencies) so that we can move forward and face the global challenges in the 21st century,” AFP Chief Gregorio Pio Catapang said in the sidelines of ADAS 2014 held at World Trade Center in Pasay City last week.
Currently, the Philippines is in a heated tension with China due to dispute in the West Philippine Sea. China claims virtually the entire South China Sea including the waters inside Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.
