Kaya C [instead of M] Catapang,” Tan-Chi said.

Catapang as the new military chief will focus on ending insurgencies so that the AFP can focus on territorial defense.

“We are transitioning to territorial defense because the world has become so globalized that the threats are likewise global. We have to level up, put a closure to the problem of internal (insurgencies) so that we can move forward and face the global challenges in the 21st century,” AFP Chief Gregorio Pio Catapang said in the sidelines of ADAS 2014 held at World Trade Center in Pasay City last week.

Currently, the Philippines is in a heated tension with China due to dispute in the West Philippine Sea. China claims virtually the entire South China Sea including the waters inside Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.
