Team Gilas Pilipinas started the FIBA Asia Cup campaign with a victory against Chinese Taipei today, Saturday in Wuhan, China with 78-64 finish.
Gilas needs one more win in the first round to continue the campaign. Top finisher in this competition will qualify for FIBA Asia Championship in 2015.
Paul Lee, Rain or Shine guard coming from a disappointment against SanMig Coffee in the Governors’ Cup finals, led the team with 18 points and 4 assists.
David made 16 points, Marcus Douthit scored eight with 16 rebounds and three blocks, Quincy Davis’ 15-9-2 point-rebound-block, while Ranidel de Ocampo and LA Tenorio contributed 11 points each.
Gilas Pilipinas will continue its FIBA Asia Cup campaign against Singapore on Monday airing on TV5 at 8pm.
This tournament is being used by Philippine national team to train for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain and the Asian Games basketball competition this year.
Gilas is aiming for gold in the Asian Games.
