“The court does not possess competence to pass upon the alleged medical condition of accused Enrile. This being the case, the director of the Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose Gonzales MD and/or any of his duly authorized representatives is hereby directed to conduct a medical examination on accused Enrile and thereafter submit a report and recommendation to the court, particularly on whether there is an imperative need for the continued confinement of the accused in a government hospital, within three days from notice hereof,” the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division said Wednesday.
Until the result of PGH’s examination is presented, Enrile will stay at Philippine National Police General Hospital in Camp Crame.
PGH spokesman Dr. Jose Joven Cruz said a team of vascular expert, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, urologist, geriatrician, and endocrinologist was tasked to examine Enrile.
The team is now coordinating with Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s attending physician and doctors at PNP General Hospital.
The state hospital, PGH, is given three days to come up with a recommendation whether hospital arrest is needed for the old senator.
PGH Director Dr. Gonzales is ordered to appear in court to present findings and recommendation on Monday, July 14.
