Gilas Pilipinas Coach Chot Reyes with Jay Washington, Paul Lee and Beau Belga, who will be playing their first international competion match, together with Junmar Fajardo, naturalized player Marcus Douthit, Japeth Aguilar, Ranidel de Ocampo, Gary David, Jared Dillinger, LA Tenorio and cadet players Kevin Alas and Garvo Lanete will fly to China tomorrow to participate in the fifth FIBA Asia Cup set on July 11-19 at Wuhan, China.
This competition will be a way for Philippine National Basketball team to gain enough training to have a good spot in the 2014 FIBA World Cup starting August 30 and have great chance for a gold in the 2014 Asian Games on September.
Top fisher in Wuhan is automatically qualified for the FIBA Asia Championship in 2015.
“I like our lineup but we don’t have the chance to be at our best because of the limited practices that we had. We have [two] young guys and I’m intrigued and want to see Jay Washington, Paul Lee and Beau Belga in actual [international] competition,” Reyes said.
The Philippines versus Chinese Taipei on Saturday at 2:45 pm, Singapore on Monday at 2:45 pm, and on Tuesday against Jordan at 5:15 pm.
