The Philippine Navy said the installation of 2 secondary armaments for the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF-16), currently the country’s most modern warship, will be finished within the year.
Cmdr. Gregory Fabic, Navy public affairs office chief confirmed to the PNA.
“The weapons [are in the country] but not installed yet. Our timeline for the installation of her secondary armament is within the year,” Fabic added.
Two Mark 38 Model 2 25mm “Bushmaster” automatic cannon are now in the country and are stored in a secured location.
A US Coast Guard team will be doing the installation. BRP Ramon Alcaraz’s port (left) and starboard (right) side will be fitted with the said armaments to act as the ship’s secondary weaponry.
Bushmaster is a remotely powered, chain driven, single-barrel weapon which may be fired in semi-automatic, burst, or automatic modes. The gun can destroy lightly armored vehicles and aerial targets (such as helicopters and slow-flying aircraft).
It can also suppress enemy positions such as exposed troops, dug-in positions, and occupied built-up areas. It can fire at 200 rounds per minute. The weapon has an effective range of 3,000 meters.
