Philippines interested to host FIBA World Cup, Asian Games – both on 2019

Vietnam, last April withdrew its right to host the 2019 Asian Games. According to report Vietnam withdrew due to preparation constraints.

Bidding was reopened until next month. New host will be revealed on September.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco said the Philippines can bid for the said event with Philippine Arena as the main venue.

Philippine Arena, an Iglesia ni Cristo owned arena, can hold up to 55,000 viewers.

The Philippines last hosted the Asian Games way back 1954.

According to Cojuangco satellite venues can be put up in Manila, Laguna, Bacolod and Cebu.


On the other hand, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manny V. Pangilinan is also determined to bid for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Pangilinan mentioned Philippine Arena in Bulacan, Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Smart Araneta Coliseum, and the stadium being built in Cebu by SM Group can be used as venues in the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup.

FIBA officials were impressed on how Philippines hosted the Asian championship tournament last year.

October this year is the deadline for submission of bid for 2019 FIBA World Cup hosting rights.
