“We wish to gladly inform China that we just celebrated yesterday the 13th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said. June 9 is marked to be Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day. The said event was celebrated by the Palace in Manila Hotel’s Tent City with Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua arranged by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
“And perhaps, instead of condemning the friendly games between the Philippines and Vietnam, China should focus on engaging the Philippines in friendly initiatives,” the presidential spokesman added. This statement of Lacierda is in regards with China’s note to recent PH-Vietnam naval activity as ‘clumsy farce‘.
“Our relationship with China is not solely dependent on our conflict with them in the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea. Again, our relationship with China is multi-faceted, plus the fact that we have a number of Filipino-Chinese members in our country. We have always had very good relations with China in the other areas of exchange that we have: people-to-people, tourism, trade. So—and a number of us also have roots or have Chinese blood,” Lacierda said in previous briefing.
