“The President will lead Independence Day celebrations on June 12, ang venue sa Naga City,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said on state-owned dzRB radio.
Valte added that the President will return to Malacanang to host the traditional vin d’honneur (wine of honour).
The deputy presidential spokesperson said since Aquino’s presidency, he had been celebrating Independence Day in different provinces that contributed a major part in Philippine independence.
“Sinusundan natin ang mga bayan na nagkaroon ng special significance ng pagtulak ng laban sa kalayaan at kasarinlan,” Valte said.
Fifteen Martyrs of Bicol were patriots from Bicol who cooperated with the Katipunan during the Philippine Revolution against Spain. Eleven out of 15 martyrs were executed by mustketry on January 4, 1897 at Bagumbayan currently known as Luneta Park, while the four were either exiled or died in prison.
