While the Philippine Navy will be using Alava, Riviera and Juliet wharves inside Subic Freeport to base two Hamilton-class frigates of the Republic the BRP Alcaraz (PF-16) and BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PF-15). Also it is reported that two upcoming brand-new frigates will be ported in Subic.
“We approved that [resolution] in principle, of course, because the primary consideration is national security,” Garcia said. “As you know, Subic is considered very strategic because (it is) only 120 miles from the flashpoint which is the Bajo de Masinloc. So it is very important that Subic is ready to respond.”
“The mandate of SBMA is that we are a Freeport. However, that does not preclude us from hosting these Philippine bases in the interest of national security,” SBMA administrator elaborated.
In a separate interview with ANC, Garcia said that preparations inside Subic is for Philippine troops and hardware, however, SBMA can also be used by US troops as guests. “Gusto ko lang liwanagin, these will be Philippine bases po.
